Behavioural Biometrics Study
This study is designed to collect anonymous behavioural interaction data for academic research into continuous authentication.
What you will do
You will complete two short tasks:
1. Typing task: type prompted words for 60 seconds.
2. Tapping task: tap moving targets for 60 seconds.
What to expect
The full session takes 2 minutes.
Before the tasks, you will be asked a few quick context questions such as time of day, fatigue, and input device.
At the end, you will see your results and your anonymous Participant ID.
Important instructions
Please complete the tasks naturally, using your normal typing and tapping behaviour.
For the typing task, type the word shown and press the Enter/Return key after each word.
Please do not take part while driving or in any unsafe situation.
Consent
This study collects anonymous interaction timing data from typing and tapping tasks for academic research into behavioural biometrics (continuous authentication).
What we collect: timestamps and timing features from key presses, taps, pointer movement, and the context options you select (time of day, fatigue, input device, vibration, alcohol).
What we do NOT collect: no names, no email addresses, no IP addresses, and no direct personal identifiers.
Participation is voluntary. You can stop at any time by closing the page.
If you wish to withdraw your data, contact: ppywi1@nottingham.ac.uk and include the Participant ID shown on the Results screen.
18+ only.
Do not play while driving.
Browser requirement: please complete this study in a normal Safari or Chrome tab.
Do not use private/incognito mode. Private browsing can interfere with persistent browser storage, which is needed to keep the same anonymous Participant ID on this device across sessions.
Context Before You Start
These questions help us understand whether behaviour changes across different situations. Please answer based on how you feel right now.
Time of day
Select the option that best matches your current time period.
Fatigue
Rate how tired you feel right now, from 1 = very alert to 5 = very tired.
Current value: 3
Input and environment
Choose the main device you are using to interact with the screen.
For example: sitting still, walking, on a train, or in a moving vehicle.
This is optional and used only as anonymous context for the research dataset.
